Suggest Treatment For Laryngitis

I woke up 4 days ago with a sore throat that caused me severe laryngitis. I have taken over the counter TheruFlu and Nyquil daytime and nighttime pills, which have not helped get rid of laryngitis and a nagging dry cough that keeps me from sleeping during night time the past 3 nights. Also, Halls cough drops have not helped with severe laryngitis, constant dry coughing and mucus buildup in throat. What other over the counter medicines do you recommend to help me feel better while my cold runs its course? Also, I have not had fever, body aches/chills and exhaustion.

Hi,

Laryngitis is an inflammation of vocal cords and can be most probably secondary to a bacterial or viral throat infection.

For confirmation consult an Otolaryngologist or an ENT expert and get evaluated.

He can do investigations like Throat swab culture can help in diagnosis.

You can be advised:

-Antibiotics like Augmentin OR Azithromycin to resolve the infection.
-Anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen can be taken to relieve pain.
-Doing warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and using a humidifier in your room can be very much relieving.
-You can also suck throat lozenges to soothe the throat.
-Gargle with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine.
-Gargle with antiseptic solution like few drops of betadine in water.
-Chew Vitamin C pellets to boost up the immunity.
-Avoid spicy and chilled foods.

Speak less and do not strain while speaking to let the healing be faster.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
