Suggest Treatment For Left Arm Pain And Pain In Wrist And Hand

I have had pain in my left arm for almost a week. I visited my doctor and of course he checked my heart. My heart is fine. The pain is mainly between the shoulder and elbow although it is sometimes in the wrist and hand. It is not necessarily in the joints it is a dull aching and most painful when I am idol such as sitting or in bed. When I am active it is not so painful . It is a little improved with iburprofen or panadol.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Pain in left arm, forearm, wrist and palm with normal heart indicates the following:
- Cervical spondilitis
- Nerve compression at the neck level
Hence I would advise you the following:
- Consult your doctor once again
- Request for proper clinical examination of neck, power in both the arms, forearms and hands; sensation
- MRI of the cervical spine as this might find the cause
- Avoid stress and anxiety as these increase muscle spasm and thus the symptoms which occur particularly when you are free
- Medicines to continue like Ibuprofen in proper dose and strength
- Muscle relaxants
- Proper sleep
- Further management as per the findings of clinical evaluation and MRI reports

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
