Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter is experiencing weakness in her legs accompanied by drop foot in both feet , an erg was performed and the dr said that she was not receiving nerve signals to L5 but he was not sure why, I was wondering if this can be a sign of possible MS, I looked at the list of symptoms and she experiences most all of the sign and she also has Crohnes, so I am not sure if it can be causing the same symptoms. What do think we should do she is not able to have MRI s so is there another test to rule it out.
We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what your daughter had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, she needs to be evaluated by brain imaging and MRI or CT scan is a must.
For fear or phobia of MRI or claustrophobia caused by closed machine can be dealt with open machines options which are now available at various centers. Lumbar puncture and oligocolonal bands examination in CSF may help with keeping MS a possibility.
Lumbar spine X-ray and CT scan may also be needed to rule out spinal lesion compressing on nerve root at its origin. Neurosurgeon review at the earliest is a must.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin,
