Suggest Treatment For Lichen Planus In Mouth

I seem to have a rather extreme case of Lichen Planus in my mouth. I have been dealing with this since Dec. I am under the care of a dermatologist and am presently awaiting the results of a biopsy for confirmation. I was given a med to put directly on the sores which seemed to help some but the condition began to affect so many parts of my mouth that the med no longer served to help. Thus I am on no medication for the condition. I do not have it on the skin but suffered a major break-out of eczema; it is under control. I assume something has thrown my immune system out of control. I just read the flu vaccine could be the culprit. Seniors in this area have been r eceiving an extra heavy dose of the vaccine. Do you have more info? I am 83 yrs old and in fair health normally.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As per your complain Oral Lichen Planus is an auto-immune inflammatory disease leading to formation of red and white painful lesions on mouth as well as can cause lesions in other parts of body also..
The cause is mostly unknown although a few causes like Hepatitis vaccine, painkillers belongings to NSAID's, Tobacco dipping, very poor Oral hygiene, allergy reaction to certain foods, dental materials etc can be predisposing factors..

Lichen Planus is almost a life saver disease and the lesions may continue to occur all the life..
The treatment that can be prescribed is topical application of Steroid based ointment over the painful areas..
Numbing gel can be applied to reduce pain in the painful lesions..
In very extreme cases immunosuppressant are advised to patients but only in very extreme cases due to other side effects of immunosuppressants..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
