Suggest Treatment For Lightheadedness, Confusion And Falls Due To Abnormal Gait

I came down sick a month or so ago. sinus infection I believed. tried flushing ears out also because ear hurt , but thought sinus infection went away. but continued to feel light headed and woozy.I do have trouble with my legs because of post polio syndrome, but it wasn t the same thing. I just keel over or walk off sideways. Just fell again outside. split my lip. tried getting up, but took me several tries. It scares me because I have done some serious damage at times Susan

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have lightheadedness, confusion and falls due to abnormal gait , which are symptoms of vertigo and can occur due to many reasons like middle ear infection , some kind of growth in middle ear or fluid in middle ear ( Meniere's disease ) . You should not ignore this , because sometimes the condition get complicated. i would suggest you to start with antibiotics, steroids and labrynthine sedatives for 5 to 7 weeks. you should go for vestibular rehabilitation exercises. You should consult with your ENT specialist and get evaluated. Doctor may order audiometry test and tuning fork test and treat it accordingly. Avoid touching and pricking it with any sharp object. Doctor may also refer you to neurologist for nervous problem .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
