Suggest Treatment For Liver Cirrhosis In An Elderly Person

Hello, My father 66 years old has cirrhosis due to alcohol. He started throwing up blood and was rushed to the ER. They did a scope to find he had bleeding ulcers. After his scope he did not wake up. Night he had a hard time breathing and was put on a mask. Later he was incubated because he could not breath on his own. He s been in the icy for over 5 days. He s swelling in the hands and stomach, has an infection, pneumonia etc. His vitals are stable. My question is why is he not waking up? They were sedating him while he was going through withdrawal now they are not. I don t understand why he won t wake up? And what stage of the disease this is? Any information would be appreciated.

Hello,

He is not conscious that can be due to coma. Sometimes excess blood loss can lead such problem due to hypoxia to brain tissue.

If hepatitis is associated than hepatic encephalopathy can be the reason.

I need to check your reports to guide you further.

For infection antibiotic course should be prescribed.

Kindly attach your reports to guide you further.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
