Suggest Treatment For Loose Stools And Stomach Pain

I have had loose bowels for over a month. Seems to occur about 8 hrs. after I eat only. Now my stomach is starting to hurt after I eat too much. I have been taking tums. Could it be gall batter, my mother had hers removed. I am 78 and otherwise in good health. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry for the situation you are in.

As you are reporting a history of loose bowels for over one month, I advise to get further examinations to determine the right cause:
- abdominal ultrasound to rule out gallbladder issues
- liver function test
- fecal examination for ova/parasites
- stool culture

You can discuss with your physician to run these tests in order to determine the right diagnosis and specific treatment.

For the moment, I advise to:
- take probiotics to normalize intestinal flora
- avoid spicy,fatty, chilly foods
- try to eat often and small portions
- continue taking tums to relieve heartburn.

Hope it was of help!
