Suggest Treatment For Loose Stools

our downs syndrome son has been sick for practically 2 months, on antibiotics 2x consecutively, with last being a month ago; now his stool is loose and looking almost diarrhea and stringy. Should I take him in to dr. for a visit? A year ago they thought he may have had worms but did not; he has an older cat that he loves on constantly.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your son have symptoms of loose stools which seems to be due to acute gastroenteritis which is a type of viral infection. It could be due to electrolyte imbalance in body. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to take proper rest. You should do tepid sponging as well if there is fever along with loose stools. You should have plenty of fluids to rehydrate. You should take diet rich in multivitamins. . Avoid intake of outside hot and spicy food substances. Visit pediatrician once and get it examined. You should get blood tests done to find out underlying cause of your condition whether bacterial or viral and start treatment accordingly. You should give child diet rich in fibres and proton pump inhibitors. Your symptoms will resolve in 3-5 days.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
