Suggest Treatment For Loss In Sense Of Taste

I have a family member who has lost their sense of taste. It s been 3 months. Has taken Topiramate in the past but not for a couple of months now. Also takes Vit.D and Red yeast rice vit. Can t taste anything at all. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Has seen ENT and had MRI of frontal lobe down to throat. No problem seen.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query family member of yours had loss of taste that too complete loss of taste which could be due to use of medication such as Topiramate which he/she must have taken for nervous disorder. I would suggest you to visit neurologist once and take medications which lower down autoimmune or nervous system disorder. Give them diet rich in zinc supplements as that will recover there taste. Maintain a proper dental hygiene to prevent gingivitis or stomatitis. Avoid smoking if person is habitual. I would advice use of oral corticosteroids as well because if its due to any allergy it will resume back taste.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
