Suggest Treatment For Low Grade Fever

My son has had a fever since last Tuesday (today being the 6th day). He returned from Italy and Scotland on 8/4, having been there since 7/11. Mostly, his fever is low-grade 99.7-100.9, but he has had a few episodes with 103.8. Could his travels abroad be the cause? We had a blood test where everything was fine, except his platelets are a little low (common, I am told when sick). He is frustrated, and we are concerned.

Fever is a symptom of an underlying disease. There are many causes of fever such as malaria, typhoid, infectious mononucleosis, TB, dengue etc. groin pain might be due to painful lymphadenopathy. There are many infections which can be contracted by visiting the endemic area during travelling such as Dengue, Chikungunya, malaria, hemorrhagic viral infections, and Rickettsial diseases. Platelet count is decreased in most of the viral infections particularly Dengue. Besides, there are other viral infections which cause platelet to come down. Some infections are endemic in particular country.
Advice
1.     Cefixime 100 mg every 12 hours per oral for 7 days
2.     Paracetamol 500 mg per oral if fever occurs
3.     Do not use other non-steroidal anti-pyretic for fever as platelet count is low
4.     Cold water sponging if fever is more than 100 degree Farenheight
5.     Investigations
k.     CBC
l.     ESR
m.     Widal test
n.     blood smear for malarial parasite
o.     dengue NS1 antigen
p.     test for Chikungunya fever
Consult a doctor with reports if fever is not relieved by above measures.
Thanks
