Suggest Treatment For Lower Back Pain That Radiates To The Hip

I started having lower back pain on the left side which is now radiating around the front of my hip. This started after a day in bed with a cold. We have a terrible mattress which often gives us low back pain but is quickly resolved when we get out of bed I m not currently very active, but I m relatively fit & somewhat overweight, but not obese. Should I first try icing the area? I m thinking it could be my hip flexor.
