Suggest Treatment For Lump At Base Of Throat

I have a lump at the base of my throat, appx the size of a golf ball. I first noticed it 6 weeks ago, but within the last week it has become tender to the touch, painful to swallow, and difficult to speak louder than a whisper. I have an appointment the day after tomorrow, should I pay attention to anything else in particular, to give my doctor the best information?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
A lump at the base of throat can be due to thyroid enlargement or can be due to some lesion inside the throat.
You need to consult an ENT specialist to examine the throat for presence of any growth or any other lesion.
Difficulty in swallowing is suggestive of a lesion in the throat.
In case there is no lesion in the throat, ultrasonography of neck region is required to assess the thyroid or any surrounding lymph node enlargement.
A painful selling is commonly seen in infectious condition but complete clinical assessment is required to diagnose the condition and hence plan management.

Thanks and take care
