Suggest Treatment For Migraine Where OTC Drugs Don T Help
Hello. I have been suffering from a migraine for the past two weeks, with OTC drugs making no difference. My nurse practitioner put me on a 9 day prednisone taper, saying that I would notice it relieving my headache very quickly since it would be decreasing inflammation. However, today is my 3rd day taking it and I have felt no relief whatsoever. I m just concerned at this point that there could be some sort of underlying problem. I was diagnosed with a seizure disorder in 2010, but my seizures have been totally controlled by a low dose of oxcarbazepin. I would love to have any advice as to whether I should see a physician or just wait it out. Thanks!
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.
Since it has been already two weeks I believe you should be checked by a doctor to look for the cause because persistent pain for that long is not common if you haven't suffered from chronic headache before. So I believe a physical neurological exam is necessary to check for signs indicating other causes and possible blood tests and brain imaging. I am not sure what the use of prednisone is in your case, yes it decreases inflammation but the cause of the inflammation must be determined.
I hope you'll get better soon.
