Suggest Treatment For Migraine

I ve had MIGRAINES for 17 yrs now, progressively getting worse to the point of low avg of 5x week, with one episode resulting in a seizure 3 yrs ago. My now deceased Sister was Epileptic with Jans Syndrome. I ve had strange auras, lost time, cognitive thinking interrupted, muscle weak ess in legs to the point of collapse on at least two occasions; that at the time I attributed to medicine. Light sensitivity (fluorescent and incandescent) somewhat with natural light, but not usually unless Migrainal. My question is, SHOULD i ask my Dr to test me for Huntingdons Disease, my Uncle (mother) and his daughter also had brain cancer, both deceased from this.

Neurologist 's  Response
Hello,

The migraines you describe are not an indicator of Huntington's, they are not a typical manifestation for that disease.

Also since it is inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern (one copy of a defective gene is enough to develop the disease) usually one of the parents should have had Huntington's.

So I do not see a reason to test for Huntington's, though you certainly should consult a neurologist for your chronic migraines.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Olsi Taka, Neurologist
