Suggest Treatment For Migraines And Sleep Apnea

Hi, I suffer from migraines quite a lot. These migraines get quite bad and cause me to throw up which has some relief. Can you advise what I can do about them? I also have rhinitis which gets really bad in winter causing my nose and throat to be painfully sore when I breath in the mornings or close to the middle of the night. Points to note about my health. I noticed my migraines get triggered from the sun and when I eat oily food but these are not always the causes. My GP also thinks I could have sleep apnea, I have not as yet went for tests for this.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The treatment for migraines and sleep apnea may vary depending on the severity and frequency of the symptoms. Here are some general suggestions:
* Migraine treatment: There are several medications available for the treatment of migraines, including over-the-counter pain relievers, prescription medications, and preventative medications. Your healthcare provider may also suggest lifestyle changes, such as avoiding trigger foods, getting regular exercise, and practicing stress-reduction techniques.
* Sleep apnea treatment: Treatment for sleep apnea may include the use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine, oral appliances, lifestyle changes such as weight loss or avoiding alcohol and sedatives, and in some cases, surgery.
* Combination therapy: If you have both migraines and sleep apnea, your healthcare provider may suggest combination therapy, such as using a CPAP machine and taking migraine medication.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. H. Kay, General & Family Physician
