Suggest Treatment For Mild Tooth Pain And Facial Swelling While On Amoxil

Left side of my face is swollen and look like elephant man, had mild tooth ache 2days ago and little worse yesterday and this morning I'm elephant man left side of face & the swelling is also in my left eye socket. I'm sure it's abscess tooth and it being Christmas Day no dentist open until Tuesday 2 days. I went to ER where Dr gave me Amoxil 500mg. I can't take narcotic pain meds due to an addiction I had 8 years ago, this is extremely painful left side of face and was also curious what king of pain med I could take, Dr at ER suggested Buprenorphine

Hi,

As per your query toothache that has progressed day by day along with facial swelling seems to be most probably due to Dental Abscess that occurs when due to deep tooth decay there is pus formation below the root tips of the tooth.

At times the pus perforates the bone and gets accumulated in soft tissues leading to swelling. I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigation like x ray of tooth can help in diagnosis and treated accordingly. You can be advised Root canal treatment of tooth followed by antibiotics and painkillers for permanent relief. As of now take anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and in case if pain is severe Ketorolac can be taken and do not worry as none of them is Narcotic in nature.

Hope this information helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks and regards,
