Suggest Treatment For Moderate Ectasia

I was recently diagnosed with moderate ectasia of the aortic root at 4.6 CM. I am a 46 year old healthy male. I went on a salmon fishing trip in Alaska last week. We fished 3 days straight in 5-7 foot very rough seas. Since the trip I have felt a bit off and overall anxious. I also am experiencing a throbbing tingling in my upper left back especially if I stoop over. No significant chest or back pain. Some neck pain but no more than usual. Question... could the rough pounding have cause any sort of rupture or is this just anxiety talking...

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

A CT aortogram is required. If there is only ectsia, we can manage conservatively and routine follow up is only required. If there is true aneurysm, surgical correction may be required. Consult a vascular surgeon and he will direct you accordingly. Make sure that your blood pressure is well controlled because uncontrolled hypertension might worsen the problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
