Suggest Treatment For Mood Swings In A Child

Hi, My 6 year old son is a perfectly normal child. He is very smart and outgoing. For the last 2 days he has been having mood swings. He gets sad and cries. When I ask whats wrong he says his body is making him cry. He says he feels weird but not sick and that it is hard to describe how he feels. One time after attempting to work on some school work he said he feels like he is not good at anything. The other time was when we were planning to go to our in-laws. He got really upset and said part of what he was feeling was that he was homesick and just wanted to be at home but that is so out of character for him. He gets sad/upset for a few minutes and then he seems to be ok. Is this normal age appropriate behavior?
