Suggest Treatment For Morning Nausea

My sister is often nauseous upon rising in the morning. This can debilitate her for the whole day at times. She has used gravol and cannabis to alleviate the symptom. Both work but she has noticed that the cannabis isn t always effective. She needs to have her teeth extracted as she has irreparable gum disease. I was wondering if this could be the culprit.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Tooth extraction does not have any direct relation with feeling nausea. However, it is possible that the antibiotics or painkillers that she might have been prescribed can cause heartburn and thus nausea.

It seems like acidity or heartburn only and nothing else. She should restrict her use of acidic foods like tomatoes, onions, citrus fruits etc. She should have a gap of 2 hours between dinner and bedtime. Doing regular exercise and drinking lots of water will help, too. She can take Digene syrup (Aluminium hydroxide + Magnesium hydroxide + Carboxymethylcellulose) 10 ml 2-3 times a day, specially after meals and before bedtime. She can also take Ranitidine Hydrochloride 150 mg (Zinetac) twice a day for 5 days.

If this does not help, then she should consult a gastroenterologist for physical examination and further investigations.

I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. Let me know if you have follow up questions.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
