Suggest Treatment For Mucus Built Up In The Sinus

My head is full of mucus (mainly in my nose and around my eyes). I have been taking mucinex an benedryl,
and the mucus has been coming out.
Is there any harm in doing a light workout at the gym, and taking sauna, or should I wait until I am clear?
Also I have a holiday party tomorrow night. Is there any harm in having 1 - 2 glasses of red wine, while I am still taking benedryl and mucinex?
Thank you.

Hi,

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns. As per your complain it seems that discharge of mucous from nose is most probably due to infection in the sinuses leading to Sinusitis and as the sinuses drains through nostrils, therefore fluid/pus accumulation in sinuses can drain through nose.

Gymmimg or sauna is not harmful and you can take it if not comfortable. But taking red wine is not recommended. I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like PNS view x ray or MRI scan can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.

You can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Pseudoephadrine, do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room.

You can also be advised decongestant nasal sprays containing Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline. Avoid spicy and chilled foods. Do warm compresses around nostrils.

Hope this information helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks and regards,
Dr. Honey Nandwani Arora
