Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Suggest Treatment For Mucus Filled Cough, Diarrhea And Low Appetite In A Toddler
Three year old has a persistent cough, throwing up mucus, has had several bouts of diarrhea over the last 8 hours and has a loss of appetite. We have given him his rescue inhaler to help open up his airways but he still seems to cough. Is this a cold or something more serious?
I appreciate your concern for your child. Cough, vomiting and diarrhea might be related to gastrointestinal and respiratory infection. At the outset I would advise you for ORS and lots of fluids as much child can tolerate to counter dehydration and electrolyte imbalances caused by vomiting and diarrhea.
If child doesn't get any relief from vomiting than give domperidone or ondansatron syrup. Cough syrup or inhaler can be used for cough and respiratory distress. If child doesn't get any relief from all these measures than you should rush to emergency care immediately for intravenous fluid and physical examination to assess dehydration and a course of antibiotics under medical supervision.
Hope I could answer your question. Please feel free to ask for follow up question and I will gladly answer you.
Best wishes, B R Hudda
