Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. Im 25 years old and since I was 16 I've had 13 fibroadenomas. 3 of them have been removed. The others remain. I have had 9 in 17 months. I try to get advice from my consultant as to what I'm facing in the future but he won't answer any of my questions. I'd like to know if it would be better for me to just opt for a double mastectomy to minimise my risks and if I could benefit from a breast mri to determine if there are any more fibroadenomas in there that we haven't discovered yet. Thanks
You have multiple fibroadenoma. It mainly due to hormonal imbalance. All fibroadenoma not require surgical excision. Surgical excision should be done only for that which are increased in size, painful, and associated with discharge. It should be differentiated from cancer by tissue biopsy.
You can ask your doctor for following medicine for fibroadenoma: Birth control pill to regularize hormonal imbalance. Selective estrogen receptor modulator. Drink plenty of water, eat healthy diet with fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables, do regular exercise.
Hope this may help you. Contact further if follow up needed.
Best regards, Dr. Sagar
