Suggest Treatment For Muscle Tear In The Leg

i tore one of my ligament in left leg. the doctor suggested that by increasing the muscle power of that leg i can avoid the surgery. but cant do anything which will put stress on that leg. but i want to join the army and not putting stress in not a viable option. if i undergo surgery and take rest for some period will i be able to do activities like jumping from height etc which is part of army life?
