I m recovering from a cold. I had nasal and chest congestion, and a sore throat. During that time I got really chapped lips and noticed that my outer gums feel dry and tender I ve used blistex and Vaseline but they don t seem to be responding. Should I just be patient or do you have any ideas ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

For the lip lesions which you have, kindly do the following:

1. Clean the area with mild antiseptic solution like Povidine-Iodine.

2. Apply local anaesthetic gel preparations which are available over-the counter.

3. Take multi-vitamin capsules, which would help to supplement nutrients essential for healing process.

4. Avoid intake of food which would irritate mucosa like spicy foods.

5. Apply water based moisturizer balm over the lesions at bedtime. Kindly continue to take medications and other supportive measures for nasal and chest congestion until the symptoms subside completely.

Hope the information provided would be helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.

All the best.

Regards,
