Suggest Treatment For Nasal Congestion In An Infant

Hi there! I have 7wk old baby boy who caught nasal congestion ( blocked nose and mucus in throat) 6 days back. ( wt: 4.125 kgs) I have been treating him with Salin Drops and bulb syringe, baby vapor rub, water steam, elevated pillow. I have been suggested to give him 2 drops of amydramine syrup and zyrtec to cure mucus and at the same time there has been comments of not giving medicine to baby under 3 months of age. The problem is his nose is blocked and he is having hard time sleeping. Kindly assist as to whay should be done.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As the first line of management, saline nasal drops can be tried. If symptoms persist, it is better to consult an ENT specialist and get yourself evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Wishing you all the best.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
