Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi there. I recently found 3 small pea like lumps in the left side of my neck just a few centimetres down from ear. At first when I woke up I thought I just I had slept on my neck awkward resulting in a sore neck. But later today when I rubbed my neck I found the lumps. They are quite tender to touch. And I ve never had this problem before. I haven t been sick with the flu or anything and I m just a little worried as my grandmother had lymphoma a few years ago. Should I be worried? I have a doctors appointment tomorrow. So hopefully it s not too serious. Thanks
I can understand your concern. As the lymph nodes are tender to touch, it is more likely that they are swollen because of presence of infection in the ear or temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The swollen lymph nodes associated with lymphoma are painless. As your grandmother suffered from lymphoma, you are at higher risk to develop them that those who do not have lymphoma in family history, but your current condition does not suggest so.
It is more likely that you have infection in the throat or ear. If you are not experiencing any pain in those areas, you should visit an ENT specialist to examine you. If the ENT specialist rules out any infection associated in these areas, then you should visit a dentist or oral & maxillofacial surgeon to examine your TMJ and associated muscles as infections in this joint often present with swollen lymph nodes in the area you have mentioned. Presence of any infection can be cured with course of antibiotics and the swellings will resolve.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you good health.
