General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Numbness and swelling in the hand, forearm, and shoulder can be caused by several conditions, including carpal tunnel syndrome, nerve entrapment, and inflammation. It is important to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

Some possible treatment options may include:
- Resting and avoiding activities that aggravate the symptoms.
- Immobilizing the wrist with a splint or brace to relieve pressure on the nerves.
- Taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen to reduce inflammation and relieve pain.
- Physical therapy to improve range of motion, strength, and flexibility.
- Corticosteroid injections to reduce inflammation and relieve pain.
- Surgery to release the pressure on the nerves in cases of severe or chronic symptoms that do not respond to other treatments.

In addition to medical treatment, lifestyle changes such as taking breaks during repetitive activities and performing stretching exercises may help prevent or reduce symptoms.
