General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Numbness of the arms can be due to causes that affect the nerves and/or blood vessels that supply the arms. These sensations are referred to as paresthesia. This may be related to cold or anxiety, electrolytes imbalance especially low calcium, drugs, thyroid disease with under-active thyroid gland, diabetes related neuropathy, hypoglycemia, hypertension and possible transient ischemic attack, vitamin deficiency, anemia among other causes.

Carpel tunnel syndrome is also a possibility which can present in this way. A cardiac cause should be ruled out primarily. An EKG should be done to look for possible ischemic changes. If the EKG is normal then metabolic causes can be explored in light of the physical exam findings and history. Testing for Fasting blood sugar, thyroid function tests, blood counts can be advised in consult with your doctor. B 12 supplementation can be done in the meanwhile.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
