Suggest Treatment For Numbness And Tingling Sensation

Two years ago I developed malar bags, puffy face, rough facial skin (texture is really rough on cheeks and looks like pitting edema; however, when cheeks are depressed, the skin instantly bounces back and I no longer look like myself). I have taken HCTZ, Lisinopril and gradually made it up 15 Unisom Sleepgels in the last 20 years ( I recently cut way back on the gels to almost no use on most nights and both of the bp meds. I have learned that the gels caused the high blood pressure. I still have swelling in my hands and feet but the diuretic is no longer effective. The swelling in my face and around my eyes will sometimes go away briefly. can always tell because it feels like a tingling relief in my face. I also have numbness and tingling in my hands and feet along with swelling. Three different lab tests reveal my thyroid is within normal guidelines (had a total hysterectomy in 2005).

Hi, thank you for asking Healthcare magic.
I have gone through your query and understood your concerns. First of all, with the puffy face and pitting edema, it means that your heart is not working very well as it is suppose to do. I think your prescription needs to be reviewed and instead of HCTZ, a loop diuretic may be substituted to remove the excess water that has accumulated in your tissues.
Concerning the numbness and tingling, they are symptoms of a neural (nerve) problem, which is one of the long term complications of high blood pressure or diabetes, or even an electrolyte imbalance. Treatment may invovle correction of the underlying problem and may be the use of neural pain killers like amitriptylline or carbamazepine which are sold only on prescription. I would suggest you see your treating doctor for better assessment and management.

I hope you find this helpful. I wish you well
