Suggest Treatment For Oily Skin And Acne On Face

Hi Dr. I am suffering from mild acne. I am 33 years old male. Currently I am taking acutret 10. Is it ok to take continuously 10mg tablet at night till my acne is clear? Can I donate blood now? If no, what s the reason? Can we try for a baby? Carton says females should not get pregnant. But will this apply to me if we try for a baby? Also my skin is oily and a sometimes dry. Please give me care and suggestions for my type of skin care. I am using acnewin(amwill) facewash.

Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic.

Isotretinoin is a very good treatment option for active acne. It is a derivative of Vitamin A and is absolutely safe.
Treatment usually lasts 6-8 months or even longer and depends on the severity of acne and response to treatment. The length of treatment will be decided by your treating doctor.
Rather than using a face wash or soap I suggest you to use a gentle cleansing lotion for face wash, twice daily e.g cetaphil cleansing lotion. Face washes are drying and in turn causes rebound oiliness.
Isotretinoin is sebostatic and therefore also decreases oil production by reducing the size of sebaceous glands.
Avoid donating blood while you are on treatment with Isotretinoin and for 1 month after stopping isotretinoin.
The caution is mainly in females, specially pregnant females. Isotretinoin can cause fetal malformations, during pregnancy.
The caution does not apply to males and therefore you can safely father a baby.

Regards
