Suggest Treatment For Open Wound On Ankle

15 years ago my wife broke her ankle and had surgery to repair it. She always has had problems with the scar getting sores, usually a little neosporin and bandage and it heals quickly. Now it has opened all the way through the skin and we can see underlying tissue. What can be done? (Knowing that going to the doctor for an opinion is first.)

Hello and welcome to HCM,
An open wound needs to be dressed and a topical ointment needs to be applied on it.
An open wound is prone to infection by environmental infections thus prompt debridement and dressing of wound is required.
Thus, I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment and management of the wound.

Thanks and take care
