Suggest Treatment For Oral Thrush

About 6 months ago I had all my teeth pulled and I m in the process of getting dentures. Right now I have a tongue that is blackish and sometimes turns white. It is driving me crazy and very uncomfortable please help. My dentist said don t worry about it. I thought it was thrush but it does not fit the symptoms described. Help?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern....

As per your complain it seems that you have a BLACK HAIRY TONGUE which can be due to bacterial or fungal growth over the surface of the tongue which leads to blackish appearance of the tongue over the surface and as there is some amount of fungus present over tongue surface and if there is increase in fungal growth or decrease in the body immunity due to some disease there can be increased growth of the fungus leading to white patches over tongue..
You need not to worry and consult an oral physician and get evaluated and in case if there is fungal growth initially taking Nystatin mouth washes, anti fungal lozenges and adding probiotics in diet like Yoghurt can help..
Maintain a good oral hygiene, avoid antimicrobial mouthwashes and clean your tongue using a tongue cleaner [not when white patches are present as they will bleed on scraping] can help..

Hope this information helps..
