Suggest Treatment For Osteoporosis While On Anastrozole

Hello - I want to know how long I need to take anastrozole? I have been on it for 5 yrs and feel I should stop - I did not have breast cancer, however I did have a mass in my uterus that was hormone receptor positive - I had a complete hysterectomy(5/11) and started taking the anastrozole. I am in between doctors currently, which is frustrating (my doctor moved to Hawaii to practice there) - but i feel that I should stop - I was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis, so there s that too.

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Anastrozole works by lowering blood estradiol concentrations, which may decrease the size and growth of the tumor.Since your hormone receptor positive mass had been removed by hysterectomy, continuing this drug will need the opinion of your Doctor or a Gynecologist.I will suggest you meet Gynecologist for evaluation.
Osteoporosis may come with age and affects the female sex more especially after menopause.I will suggest you see a Rheumatologist with your Bone densitometry test result.Depending on the extent of bone loss, different treatment options may be considered. The management of osteoporosis is however with anti-resorptives like biphosphonates at preventive or curative doses.A Rheumatologist will be in the best place to follow you up since your condition needs regular checks.I will however advise the following
-Regular fitness exercises
-Healthy diet
-Calcium/vitamin D supplementation
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
