Suggest Treatment For Pain After Fractured Fibula

I fractured my fibula and it splintered into 5 pieces (that we can clearly see on the xray) I have had 5 medical professionals in my family say it needs surgery but my orthopedic surgeon just wants me to leave it in a boot and says I am free to put full body weight on it right now as I can tolerate. It hurts with a blinding white hot pain even with pain meds and I feel the bone shards shifting. Is that normal for a dr to say just leave it to heal as is with so many shards?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

The decision for management of fractured fibula depends on your orthopedist's assessment of the fracture site. Compound fractures or multiple fractures are usually managed by surgery, however, the final decision depends on clinical assessment of the fracture. You may take a second opinion from some other orthopedist whether surgery will be required or not.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
