Suggest Treatment For Pain And Heaviness In The Stomach

My stomach started hurting like with the stomach flu, but I am not vomiting and do not have diarrhea. My bowel movements are soft. My stomach is rumbling and my stomach is really hard. Is there a flu like this? I have had these symptoms for 48 hours.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of having stomach pains with rumbling but no vomiting or diarrhea, stomach is feeling tight.
The commonest cause I can think is sub-acute intestinal infection causing gas formation and thus tightness, pain and rumbling.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Take gas relieving tablets like Gas-X or so - activated charcoal.
Antispasmodic to relieve pain.
Send stool and blood for lab and see if there is any evidence of an infection. If present, then timely antibiotic and Metronidazole can help you a lot.
Also take probiotics, banana, curd and plenty of liquids.
Further management as per the cause found if the problem persists on X-ray abdomen in standing position, Ultrasonography.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
