Suggest Treatment For Pain And Migraine

My daughter is 17 years old has been having a migraine for 6+ days. We have been to the dr once and the hospital twice in the last week. She is taking treximet for her migraines, has taken 2 doses today. Still in severe pain. What can we do to break this migraine?

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern and would explain that treximet is a therapy used during migraine attacks, to improve the situation and help reduce her headache.

But in her situation, I would recommend discussing with a neurologist the possibility of starting a preventive therapy for migraine attacks.

Based on her age I would recommend starting therapy with propranolol or topiramate if there are no contraindications.

These drugs help reduce the frequency and severity of migraine attacks.

Besides, I would advise some lifestyle modifications (a healthy diet, avoid caffeine and chocolates, avoid spicy food, regulate her sleeping regime, perform physical activity, etc), which would help prevent her migraine attacks.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best wishes,

Dr. Aida
