Suggest Treatment For Pain And Mucus Discharge From Ears

Hi Dr Sumit I have had ear pain for 5 day and also a yellow watery mucus that stinks coming from my ear. I got covancaine ear drop will this help fix this problem in the ear. About 5 years ago I also had this same problem this stinky watery mucus comes out when I wake up my ear is fulled with it. Please tell me what will help. Yours sencerally Jolene

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain ear ache that is happening since 5 days along with leaking of yellow watery mucous from the ear are indications of ear infection and fullness in ear is due to fluid accumulation behind the eardrum secondary to infection..

I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like otoscopy, x ray etc can help in diagnosis..

You can be advised antibiotic and analgesic ear drops and decongestant nasal drops along with oral antibiotics and painkillers for resolution..
In case if it still does not resolve then at times manual drainage of ears along with placement of pressure equalisation tubes can be done for relief..
