Suggest Treatment For Pain And Pressure In The Obdomen

Friday I was bit on my stomach and face by Monday the pain was unbearable and the swelling on my stomach was beginning to press against my right ovary and bladder, pain starting to descend down my right hip and thigh and back around my abdomen. The urgent care doctor told me it was a brown recluse and prescribed sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim tablets and minocycline. The next day my eye swole shut and my stomach isn t expanding anymore but it s getting harder. It s very red and I m afraid it s getting worse. My face is so swollen and I m dizzy, probably from the pressure in my eye. I m also nauseated and my blood pressure is elevated to 140/100. What should I do? Is it best I wait for the medicine to work?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* The pain and pressure in the abdomen after a brown recluse relate to systemic effect of the venom most likely.

* The eye swelling and stomach hardness may be related to side effect of medicine as cotrimoxazole and photosensitivity via minocycline.

I would suggest to visit an ER for better management guidance, which may require an injection of Epinephrine to control possible anaphylaxis condition.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
