Suggest Treatment For Pain And Restricted Movement In The Right Arm

My mother has had a stroke in the past. She has pain and limited movement in her right arm. Today she is much weaker than usual and has a fever of 101.1. She needed help using the bathrooms and is very tired. She is afraid that going to the ER is a waste of time but I m very worried. Should I bring her to the hospital or just keep her hydrated and keep giving her asprin?

Hello,

Very likely your mother is having an infection that is causing her fever. Because she is weak and she is elderly it is important that she is seen by a doctor. It is important that you keep her hydrated but also to arrange a visit with the doctor as soon as possible.

Do not give her more aspirin then what she is advised to take by the doctor (aspirin may cause bleeding and should not be used in longer doses than those prescribed). For fever, she may have paracetamol and if this is not helping enough she may take ibuprofen.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
