Suggest Treatment For Pain And Soreness In The Genitals Of A Child

When my daughter was about 11 years old, she had a sore, (blister like) on her genital area. She was tested to rule out herpes which i don t believe she would have as I know she hasn t had any sexual encounter. The result came out negative so she was prescribed mupirocin which seemed to help. The doctor at that time said that my daughter has one of the rare desease that is always often overlooked at. Now it s been 4 years & she is suffering & complaining of pain & soreness to genital area again w/c I noticed it happens also when her immune system goes down like in the case of being overly, tired with some flulike symptoms. I forgot the name of the rare desease that the doctor told me, can you please help me out.

Hello,

Pain, soreness or itching, stinging or burning sensation in the genital area in girls are commonly due to poor hygiene, skin infections(vulvovaginitis), allergy to soaps or some clothes, fragrant lotions or irritants like fabric softeners, etc.

Help her maintain hygiene. Girls should have a wash each time to go to the washroom/toilet.

Take her to a gyne, get her physically examined. She may need a Urinalysis (R/E & C/S) done to rule out UTI.

She can apply soframycin, neosporin or hydrocortisone ointment in the area affected. Whether she needs antibiotic or not will depend upon the Urinalysis report.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
