Suggest Treatment For Pain And Stiffness In The Neck

My 12 year old was stretching this morning and something popped in his neck and now he has stiff neck with pain. He said it was a sharp immediate pain when it happened. I have given him ibuprofen and have a heating pad on it. Thought guts or suggestions?

Hello,

During exercise or even normal stretching sudden pain is something that is commonly seen in all age groups. Specially in children as they don’t know how much strain to put on muscles during exercise. It happens to adults often so children are no different.

With history, it appears to be a muscle that was pulled. As you mentioned you have already given him ibuprofen so that will give him some relief temporarily. It will take some time for the pain to go away. The best thing he can do for now is to take rest and not to do any sort of exercise for a week at least. With proper rest he will recover from this quite fast. And most importantly I would advice you to make sure he does any kind of exercise under observation of an adult, be it a parent or a trainer. So that such kind of thing can be avoided in future from happening. Hope this helps. Stay healthy and fit.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
