Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling In The Ankles

A few weeks ago I noticed my ankles and feet swelling up, so after work I went home and elevated them and they went down some but swelled back up the next day. So after a few days of this I left ice on them and left them elevated all night and they seemed to go down for a few days. But now it seems to have come back and they are so swelled up and feel tight and my shoes won t even fit. I can only wear flip flops and it s not flip flop weather yet where i live. I ve never had this happen and I m kind of scared. Please help me!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

What is happening is that you are suffering from edema of legs. The accumulation of fluids in legs. This has many different reasons but most probably kidney disease or heart disease.

You should do a urine test to check for proteinuria and also blood chemistry tests.

Also, if you are suffering from heart failure it may cause edema. You may even consult a cardiologist.

You can send the test results to me.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka,
