Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling On Finger

I was stung by a bee yesterday on the inside of my index finger right above the distal joint. I believe I got the stinger out, however, myentire finger continues to swell and has a slight bluish tinge to it. It is swollen and very painful down to my hand. I have taken benedryl orally and used benedryl cream on the area of the sting. It's been 24 hours. Is there something else I can do. It is very painful and hard to bend my finger.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain you have an allergic reaction to the poisonous chemical released by the bee under the skin of the finger leading to inflammation and pain, swelling and bluish appearance is due to the allergic reaction which is causing radiating pain over the hand..
You should continue taking benadryl as it is anti histamine which will reduce the allergic symptoms..
For pain you can take anti-inflammatory OTC painkiller like Ibuprofen[advil or motrin]
Do ice packs over the swollen finger..
Apply steroid based ointment which also has a numbing agent like Kenalog in Orabase for reducing pain and inflammation..
In case if symptoms exaggerate you should consult an emergency room and get evaluated and the doctor can advise you to take oral steroids for reducing inflammation and swelling as well as injectable anti-histamine or steroid can also be given..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
