Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling On Hand After Injury

Hi, I recently injured my hand [yesterday]. I ended up hitting something with my fist relitivly hard. The middle knuckle closest to my hand ached for a while and it did hurt to hold a few things but it eventually died down. Today there is an impressive amount of swelling and discoloration. I have full range of motion with the finger but when I curl my hand into a fist I can feel a tight constant pain that runs along the left side of the k uckle. Also when I rub the flesh over the knuckle to massage it it feels like I m rubbing wet sand under rubber if that makes any sense. Is this a case of me having broken a tiny little bone? Should I get my hand X Rayed?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think it would be better if you do a x-ray of the hand to check for possible dislocation or broken bones.

You may need to put ice compresses on it and take antiinflammatory drugs such advil for pain. Reduce the movement as much as possible.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka
