Suggest Treatment For Pain Behind The Knee And Night Sweats

I have been worried about my husband, he is 53 never been sick, about 7 months ago started with pain behind right knee, would actually almost make him fall as if it was giving out on him. Aleve arthritis helped for a little bit, since then he has started aching in his shoulders, wrist, fingers says it feels like his bones hurt. The last 2 months he has drenching night sweats so bad it soaks the sheets, does not have the energy he use to have and complains of shortness of breath and says he feels he just cant get enough air. I have checked o2 and it will be anywhere from 92 to 95. Also says he has pain in chest right side in the lung area. He is a smoker and has smoked since he was 18, is there anything that you feel all these symptoms could be.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are suggested to get him some blood tests done like anti- CCP, CRP (C-reactive protein), ESR. Some blood tests for RF, rheumatic factors, ANA, anti-nuclear antibodies. These tests will help to confirm RA or OA. He should also be tested for gout, he should get joint fluid test and tests for uric acid, X-ray, ultrasound, DECT, etc. His treatment will depend on the pathology detected and the severity of the symptoms.

To get relief from pain he can take NSAIDs, after food. He should get his knees clinically examined to rule out abscess, baker's cyst, etc. He is getting night sweats, shortness of breath, pain chest on the right side. He has been a chronic smoker. He is advised to get clinically examined by a GP.

He should get lung function tests, sputum test, swab test and all required imaging tests done to detect any developing COPD, asthma, lung cancer, etc. His treatment will depend on the pathology detected and severity of the symptoms. Get him treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
