Hello,

Pain due to tight rapid palatal expander indicates possible masseter muscle spasm. Following measures will help you for better recovery:
- Gradual mouth opening exercises without use of palate expander
- Chew food thoroughly
- Avoid nut crackers and other hard stuffs to be chewed
- Analgesic and anti inflammatory medications
- Muscle relaxant molecules helps better for tissue relaxation
- Certain cases do require physiotherapy of cheek muscles as well

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
