Suggest Treatment For Pain In Back

I have had a dull ache through the middle of my back for weeks. The dull ache seems to get worse if I need to go to the toilet (that s a relatively new development though). It is some times on the left, sometimes on the right & sometimes in the middle a little lower. I recently got a sinus infection & a chest infection that was treated with antibiotics. They are now finished. Over the last week I feel as though I have this constricting feeling in my throat (at the front/adams apple area) & every now & then I feel as though all my glands are swollen & full. Last night after two wines the back pain got worse & hurt to take deep breaths.

Hello,

Pain in the back is commonly due to muscle strain, slipped disc, degenerative disc disease, poor posture, sedentary lifestyle, compression of nerve roots, improper movement of the spinal joints, damage to the inter-vertebral discs, etc. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an orthopedics. Get CT, MRI, X-ray done. Get treated at the earliest. In the meantime, since the pain moves from left to right, it can be due to gastritis. You can take PPI's, Pantoprazole - 40mg, one SOS when discomfort for relieve.

For relief from backache take Combiflam or Acetaminnophen (Tylenol), one SOS when needed. For throat discomfort, gargle with warm salt water 2-3 times a day. Take antihistamines, one SOS when needed for relieve from allergy. If discomfort continues you may take a course of antibiotics (Augmentin or Doxycyline).

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
