Suggest Treatment For Pain In Mid Lower Back Radiating To Legs

I hurt my back. I was lifting weights for about two months just for my back. one day I got two sharp pains. I went to doctor and she said to rest cause I got 2 bumps of muscle tightness on my back. but I had to work so I took ibu and off to work. two weeks later I was so bad that I stopped working. then it went down hill. I was also working out my latts on my back, the two shoulder blades. it got so bad I started to get stiff on my back and pain down my legs with tingling, and then my arms too, all the way to my fingers. my doctor took xray. I got arthritis forming on my left side on my back. then to a specialist for my spine. I told him everything I did. he told me to bend down and I could. I past all his test in the exam room from strength and all. I said my lower back hurt and the middle lower back with shooting pain down my legs. then he had me lay on my side, felt my back but not the bottom part where it hurt most. he pushed and I felt sharp pain. then he said I think u might have fibro. and gave me gabapentin. I asked for other test, cause I really didn t want it to be that. he said no test, we will treat u for this and see me in one month. I was in so much pain. so I went to massage therapy on my own. I feel a lot better. my back still hurts but I take a pain pill and it helps. gabapentin makes me feel scared when I take it, does nothing. the tingling after a full body massage is going away. please, I am asking you , should I see another specialist. or is this how they help you. I have hmo and its hard with that insurance, they approve no tests unless the doctor gives them heck on it. im going to chng to ppo in September. but I beg you, do you have advice? ok, sorry. I cant afford the cost. thank you though

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You can take over the counter (OTC) Analgesics like Ibuprofen and Paracetamol for pain relief. Do hot fomentation. Vitamin B12 loading doses help in neuropathic pain.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ajeet Singh, General & Family Physician
