Suggest Treatment For Pain In Neck & Shoulder Blade

I am having stabbing pains deep inside the right side of my neck that sometime will run down to the middle of my chest and around to my right lower shoulder blade. Why does a glass of water or any other liquid soothe the pain. The pains are becoming more frequent.
