Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Back Of The Knee

I have pain in the back of my right knee and it is locked in place so I cannot straighten it. It has happened before but has gone back into place within about 10 minutes. It has been over 6 hrs this time and is painful to move. I did have a meniscus repair done in 2004. Any recommendations? dk

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You can take analgesics like ibuprofen or diclofenac for pain.
Patient underwent knee surgery sometimes experiences this kind of locking and pain in the knee. It might be due to some foreign body changes.
If the symptoms persist, better to go for an MRI to rule out any foreign body changes in the knee.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
